GTECH Corporation Awarded For Its Extensive Community Involvement By Providence Business News

PROVIDENCE, RI – (November 21, 2011) – GTECH Corporation has been recognized for its contributions to the community by Providence Business News (PBN) at the 11th annual Business Excellence Awards. GTECH received the Community Involvement Award at a ceremony on November 17, and was one of seven organizations and two individuals who were recognized for their excellence, leadership, and community involvement.

“This award is a testament to all of our employees, here in Rhode Island and throughout the world, who contribute their own time and resources to community and charitable efforts,” said GTECH President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel. “GTECH takes great pride in our employee volunteer programs and we believe in being a committed corporate neighbor by providing direct grants to hundreds of community and charitable organizations.”

The Business Excellence Awards are one of the region’s longest-running and best-known business recognition programs. The Community Involvement award is given each year to a company whose employees contribute significant time and resources to the neighborhoods where they live and work.

GTECH focuses its community efforts on three core areas: education, family services, and community and civic initiatives. The Company’s flagship community involvement initiative continues to be the After School Advantage program, which provides computer centers for children during the critical after-school hours. Through this program, GTECH donates state-of-the-art computers, online technology, computer software, furniture, and volunteer hours to selected programs where the Company conducts business.

Since the program began in 1999, GTECH, and its affiliate companies, have installed 164 computer labs across the nation and internationally, including 37 centers in Rhode Island. Since GTECH relocated its headquarters to Providence in 2006, there have been 20 After School Advantage labs opened in the Capital City. This year alone, three more computer labs have been, or will be, launched in Providence at the Smith Hill Community Library, the West End Community Center, and the Zuccolo Recreation Center.

Through GTECH’s Reach Out program, employees have several options to give back and get involved in their local communities. For example, employees receive one-paid day off yearly to volunteer at a nonprofit of their choice; if an employee volunteers at least 25-hours per year to an organization, GTECH will contribute $250 to that organization; when an employee makes a monetary donation to any U.S.-based college or university, GTECH will match the donation, dollar-for-dollar; and when teams of 10 or more employees participate in a charity, GTECH will provide a team grant of $1,000 to that charity.

Whether it is raising money for specific causes such as Chile’s earthquake relief fund, United Kingdom’s Breast Cancer Care, or the Barnados Family Support Project in Ireland, GTECH employees make an effort to donate both volunteer hours and funds to help a variety of nonprofit organizations. GTECH also donates to various nation-wide causes in the United States such as, the American Cancer Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the United Way.

With the holiday season in full swing, GTECH employees are joining forces to take their charitable work beyond financial contributions. GTECH’s Rhode Island Holiday Giving Campaign includes a large Adopt-a-Family program, Toys for Tots, and a Breakfast with Santa to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The end result is a happier holiday for hundreds of families and children in Rhode Island.

“As a committed corporate citizen, we make a firm promise to be socially responsible in every aspect of our business,” concluded Mr. Patel. ”Our partnerships with – and programs within – local communities are the best examples of our ongoing commitment. We take great pride in the work that we do, and on behalf of all GTECH employees, we thank PBN for recognizing our efforts.”
