RENO, Nev., Feb 27, 2003 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --

The jackpot total on the Nevada Megabucks(R) progressive slot system has surpassed the world record slot payout of $34,955,489, set in January 2000.

Nevada Megabucks(R) is currently at $34,955,600 and will continue to increase until someone wins it. That lucky person will also become part of history in the next edition of The Guinness Book of Records.

"It's exciting to have another world record Megabucks(R) jackpot winner to look forward to," said John Sears, vice president of MegaJackpots(TM) for IGT, the creator of Megabucks(R). "We're thrilled that the Megabucks(R) total has gotten this high once again."

Megabucks(R) produced its last major jackpot -- a $22.6 million payout at Bally's in Las Vegas -- on May 27, 2002. The largest slot jackpot in history was a $34.9 million windfall that was won at the Desert Inn on the Las Vegas Strip on Jan. 26, 2000.

Megabucks(R) was introduced in Nevada casinos in March 1986. It is a 3-coin dollar game, which requires a maximum bet to win the top jackpot. The system has produced 57 major winners in its 17-year history; their combined winnings exceed $386 million. Megabucks(R) connects 676 slot machines in nearly 160 Nevada casinos to a MegaJackpot(TM) that builds from a base amount of $7 million. The top jackpot is paid in annual installments, upon verification of the win.
